ARG were required to transform old prison cells into comfortable
office accommodation. Due
to the unusual strength of the prison cell walls, the project involved
complex structural work.
The walls could not be removed without
first installing steel supports for the roof, which needed their own
temporary foundations. Highly organised planning was
required to install the support foundations and the supports
themselves, remove the interior walls, and remove the supports
and temporary
foundations.
All this was achieved within the existing
building,
without any disruption to the running of the rest of the Police
Station. Doors were designed and installed specifically for
the security and safety requirements of a police station.
Windows and air-conditioning
have been introduced to the new offices, and add the finishing
touches to a complete
transformation.
