ARG
were appointed by Nottinghamshire County Council to replace the
rotting existing wooden supports with new, state-of-the-art steel
props and stainless steel braces.
Protection
of the tree itself was a primary concern, therefore accurate
planning, meticulous attention to detail and great care
were essential to the success of the project. The existing props
were removed with the use of temporary props, and the ground was
dug to a depth of over 1 metre
to expose the
roots of the tree.
Installing the new supports involved
carefully drilling to depths of up to 4 metres, avoiding all tree roots,
to fix
the supports
to a solid natural rock base.
ARG demonstrated their innovation
by producing custom built supports with rubber linings to provide
enough flexibility
for the tree's
limbs to continue to grow.
The whole area was returned
to its original condition on completion of the works.
